DRIVER INTERVIEW

How did you find Brisca F1 Stock Cars?
I was first taken to watch F1s when I was about 5 years old. My earliest memory was the 1975 World Final at Belle Vue when Smithy 391 was passed by Chissy 252. I remember I was devastated when Chissy won.

What gave you the incentive to race
Having mechaniced and watched my Father for a number of years I always fancied racing something. At age 36 I thought it’s now or never and took the plunge. Although racing is expensive I still believe it’s quite cheap compared to other motor sports. In that you can still carry out a lot of repairs your self to keep costs down.

First Car - Built, Bought or Borrowed
The first car I built was for my dad in 1985. I tried to race it again 20 years later but the scrutineer wouldn't let me as it didn't meet the current safety regs. So the first car I purchased and raced was a 5 meeting old FWJ car, which I have raced until my new self built car is completed 2011.

Memory of your first race.
My first memory was practicing at Buxton and someone touched my rear bumper and I thought I’d been hit! It was raining and I couldn't believe how little I could see. My wife had said “how could you just buy a car you might not like it“, and I didn't in the rain at Buxton it rains sideways up there!

Best Racing Memory
At Birmingham hitting Superstar SSJ in the final into a pile of cars to hopefully take the win. Unfortunately it didn’t quite work as I thought the track was blocked but SSJ got round them and came back at me to win another final. Meanwhile I got spun out in front of his brother and came no where, but it was still a great race. Another was at Northampton, breaking very early going in to last bend and being hit very hard, I crossed the kerbs and hung on to win the heat. That was good day.

Worst Racing Memory
Hitting a parked car at full speed at Skeggy. That really hurt and bent the chassis badly and I wasn’t able to walk properly for ages because I had broke my big toe.
