DRIVER INTERVIEW

How did you find Brisca F1 Stock Cars?
Saw a local billboard advertising racing at Coventry Stadium in 1962

What gave you the incentive to race
Was a mechanic for Pete Ross #184, after racing F2's from 1964.

First Car - Built, Bought or Borrowed
Won £75 on the pools and paid £50 for Alf Howes #12 Jag engined car. Raced it for 2 years.

Memory of your first race.
Lining up for the first time, I thought "What have I done!!" Couldn't back out now though as a lot of my Evesham friends were watching. Once I was underway, I was ok. During the race I managed to put Alan Wardropper #245 onto a barrell! I managed to finish the race and was quite proud.

Best Racing Memory
Won a consolation race at an all White Top meeting at Brafield on 30th May 1971. My wife never saw it as she was looking after Nigel Shaw's children!!! Best meeting was Coventry April 1969 - Heat 8th, Final 8th and GN 2nd.

Worst Racing Memory
I was knocked unconscious at West Ham in 1965. Denis rolled and came to rest across the track, with one gap through. I let the reds go through but as I went through I hit Denis but Johnny Goodhall #261 didn't see me and hit me flat out forcing my car down the whole straight to the bottom fence. I was helped out of the car but remember nothing of it. Johnny did apologise afterwards.

Reason for Retiring
My daughter was born and the costs involved just didn't allow me to race aswell.

After Retiring - What Then?
I continued with my Fruit and Veg business, but did stay watching the sport. My sons were never interested in Stock Cars and I did want to race again. I took part in a "Veterans" race in 1978 in my old car.
