DRIVER PROFILE

Started racing in 1973 when I was doing a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Salford Uni, in an Ex. Vernon Parker rolling chassis purchased from Doug Cronshaw for £25 (who purchased it for the 389 Pontiac Engine - he got the good bit!) - Doug put on a new roll cage because it was an ugly beast! I fitted a jag engine (not very well!) and completed the car then at my first race at Nelson managed to shear the engine from its mounts on hitting a Nelson fence post. After that embarrassment, Rob & John Lane helped me make more substantial mountings + install a sump guard as Jag engines are not easy to keep in place. Decided to stop playing and towards the end of 1974 built a new car with a 383 cu inch Ford engine, raced it first time on Boxing Day 1974 and ended up breaking my elbow. After a few weeks in Manchester Royal and 5 operations I only had limited movement of my elbow and had to retire. Built a few more chassis, helped Dave Robinson (x120) for a couple of years. Then built Simon a car in 1999 and I'm building a new one for him now.
