DRIVER INTERVIEW

How did you find Brisca F1 Stock Cars?
My first interest was American Cars and it grew from there, although a local small garage owner, Arthur White raced at Leicester back in the fifties and I went along with him once.

What gave you the incentive to race
I finished an Engineering Apprenticeship in 1965 and suddenly I had some money.

First Car - Built, Bought or Borrowed
The first car with the VW body was due to be cut up and I either bought it or was given it.

Memory of your first race.
Ha Ha, Brandon, no practice, on the front row, I looked up in the stands at people enjoying themselves and thought 'what am I doing here'.

Best Racing Memory
The SwindonRingwood bank holiday meets with a night in Bournemouth but really everyone of the very few races that I did are magic memories.  The nearest to any form of success was leading my heat at West Ham till I was taken out very near to the end.

Worst Racing Memory
None, it was the best thing that I could have done.  For me it is all happy memories.

Reason for Retiring
I ran out of money and had to get a proper job which unfortunately meant a lot of foreign travel.

After Retiring - What Then?
Well where do I start, I was 22 when I retired and that was 44 years ago.  From a motorsport perspective I owned a small Garage and helped my long time friend Colin Blower with his circuit racing.  We eventually formed a company running BFGoodrich's competition services, Colin pulled out and I continued running it until I retired properly about 15 years ago. Since then I have lived in Florida for half the year and have been pressed into service helping Colin in his Motorsport business in the summer. I ran a three car team at the beginning of ASCAR, my best driver being Rob Speak............It's a small world. Oh I nearly forgot I Drag Raced from 1985 until 2002.
