DRIVER INTERVIEW

How did you find Brisca F1 Stock Cars?
My first connection with stock cars was going to Aycliffe in 1970 with Driver no 174 Dick Ainsworth from Ulverston Cumbria. His son Richard took the sport up much later under the number 354 and became a Red Top "Superstar". I was at present living in Ulverston at the time and the following year moved back with my family to Salford.

What gave you the incentive to race
On returning to Salford in 1971 my lifelong friend Harold Pollitt had started to race Hell Drivers for Mike Parker Promotions at the Salford Dog Track. From this we then shared a Hell Driving car, then a F2 and finally a F1.

First Car - Built, Bought or Borrowed
This was a shared car with Pete Johnson no 79 and was a old Brian Wignall (102) unit. After this in 1985 purchased a new Wainman Built Car. This car lasted me until end of 1993 when i finally retired. In 92 and 93 i shared the Car with Steve Pollitt (71)

Memory of your first race.
Memory of first race was at Blackburn in 1982 my number then was 418 it was a cold wet night 18 cars in the first race and halfway through this race I thought " what the F**K am i doing here as everybody seem to hit me into the fence. As usual my trusted friend Harold was always there to repair the car and get me out into the consolation! Bugger!!!!!

Best Racing Memory
Northampton 1987 European Weekend meeting and winning the Brian Wallace Memorial Trophy due entirely to Harold's setting up the Car steering and choosing the right tyres. (it rained heavy after the first 5 laps)

Worst Racing Memory
1976 First year as Mike Parker Promotions General Manager and kneeling down on the White City Track trying to resuscitate Brian Wallace (119) after that horrific accident during the race. I also want to mention losing my Best Friend, fellow driver and the Best Mechanic in the world Harold Pollitt who passed away suddenly in 2005.

Reason for Retiring
Mainly work and also not being able to recover quick enough from a meeting to go to work the following day (I got soft)

After Retiring - What Then?
After Retiring i did Kart racing in 2006 for about 3 years with Team Meccalte then onto Driving the Keating Supercar which hopefully we will regain the Worlds Fastest Production Car at Bonneville Salt flats in 2012
