DRIVER INTERVIEW

How did you find Brisca F1 Stock Cars?
Knew about stock cars from first seeing them on TV, must have been in the 50's, think it may have been Staines, makes me feel old thinking about it, we used to live in the south at the time. Also my parents used to take me to Belle Vue, must have been the sixties as we lived in the north by then. Later used to go to Parker circuits to watch bangers etc, and graduated to Stox again.

What gave you the incentive to race
Started racing as I was mechanicing for my brother, Ian who raced as 86

First Car - Built, Bought or Borrowed
Never owned a car allthough I spent a lot of time repairing one! As a 'payment' for the work I was occasionally allowed to have a go.

Memory of your first race.
White City, it was tarmac by then, struggled to get out of the pits and on to the track as I hadnt realised how soon I had to turn right on getting to the track due to the poor right steering lock. Felt embarrased as Willie was following me out and swung between me and the fence!

Best Racing Memory
Racing at Rochdale and actually qualifying for a final, for us making the meetings was a major achievement at times!

Worst Racing Memory
Throwing myself (out of car) thro' the safety fence as a car came hurtling towards me at Rochdale on the pits bend.

Reason for Retiring
My brother retired, we had become disenchanted because as we upgraded our equipemnt so did everyone else! Also with the advent of the Mirror series money become more of a problem as the sport became more serious rather than racing just for fun.

After Retiring - What Then?
Had a few seasons Grass racing until domestic problems stopped that too, now get my kicks from my motorcycle. Havent attended a stox meeting for since 1993 but do follow events on the web.
